Parenting isn’t about you, your feelings, or your thoughts on how the child should develop. Instead it is about the person your child is and can be. The more independent one will fight you for every inch of independence and alone time, while the other is going to be content to follow what you ask for. This doesn’t mean that you should have a double standard, but that you approach the issues or the personalities in a different way.
The child who doesn’t really like school needs to have more hands on help with the school work, as well as you helping to push him to succeed and the rewards for getting a B or A should be very important. You will not show less importance to the other child, but recognize when they need help and when they don’t. This child is going to ask for the help, but not until they are beyond frustrated, and they may see asking for help as a failure. Overall the importance of parenting is recognizing the differences and understanding the techniques that need to be employed.
